There’s definitely a feeling of spring in the air at Okehampton Community Garden.

Even with more rain on the horizon, the Community Garden is beginning to stir with the signs of spring.

Seeds are being sown and spring flowers are bringing life back to a sleepy garden. So far our volunteers have been sowing Beetroot, Leeks, Aster flowers, Spinach, Sweet Peas, Lavender and Rudbeckia flowers. All nestled safely in the polytunnel to give them a good start.

Also other plants already in the garden are enjoying the turn of the seasons, with garlic, beetroot, rhubarb and the spring flowers of primroses, daffodils and crocuses bringing much cheer after very soggy start to the year.

With still much to do in the garden as we fully step into spring, if you fancy trying something new, leading a helping hand or just want to come along and join us for a cuppa, we’d love to see you at the garden.

Our opening times are Wednesday’s, Friday’s and Sunday’s from 11am to 2pm.

You can find us along Fatherford Lane, and there is a carpark just inside the gate on the right.

  • Bright yellow daffodils in bloom in a mulched garden bed, with a grassy field and young trees blurred in the background.
  • Interior of a polytunnel greenhouse with metal tables covered in seed trays and small pots filled with soil and young seedlings. A yellow-tinted plastic door is at the far end, and gardening supplies are arranged neatly across the tables.
  • Green beetroot plants growing in a garden bed inside a polytunnel, with glossy leaves and deep red stems and veins emerging from dark soil.
  • Inside a polytunnel greenhouse with long metal tables on both sides holding rows of potted seedlings and propagation trays. The curved plastic walls let in soft daylight, and gardening tools and supplies are visible near the entrance.
  • A dense cluster of pale yellow primrose flowers with darker yellow centers, surrounded by textured green leaves at the base of a tree.
